How it works

1
Choose a case

Pick a category and a case. The case appears the way it arrives in a consultation: as an account of what is happening, not as a question.

2
Write your own analysis

Assessment, missing observations, safety, training plan, scope of practice. Bullet points count just as much as prose, and a shorter answer is not penalized.

3
Score and reference answer

Points for each criterion with reasons, plus a coherent written feedback. After that you can open the reference answer.

What you are graded on

Six criteria, but not weighted the same in every case. Where a veterinary examination is not professionally indicated, you lose no points for not suggesting one; those points go to the other criteria instead. Where there has been a bite incident, safety counts double.

This weighting is set individually for each of the 100 cases. It is the real work behind the tool, and the reason it does not reward answers that merely sound good in an exam.

Answers that rely on aversive methods or on dominance and pack-leader concepts are capped, and so are answers that miss an evident safety risk.

The cases

Ten categories, 100 cases, five levels of difficulty.

Every case comes from everyday consulting practice. Each one has a fully worked reference answer covering assessment, differential considerations, the medical side, safety measures, approach and scope of practice.

Who it is for

For dog trainers who work with real cases, and for everyone on their way to that work. Basic professional knowledge is assumed; the point is not to quiz you on facts but to apply them to a case.

The cases are for practice and professional development. They replace neither an in-person assessment of a dog nor a veterinary examination. The feedback is generated automatically.
